Last Saturday, January 17th, the inaugural Dutch Lions FC Cup took place at the Houston Dutch Lions FC Soccer Facility. With a 4 v 4 game format, and 16 teams signing up, four different age groups were made (U8, U10, U12 and U14).

Dutch Lions FC Cup huge success

The U8’s had a group of three teams who faced each other two times. Kingwood Alliance U8 and Juniors FC U8 made it really exciting. In the end, the head to head result was equal, so it came down to the goal difference. The goal difference of Juniors FC was better in the end and that is why Juniors FC became champion in the U8 bracket.

The U10’s had a group of five teams who faced each other ones. Number one, Juniors FC U10, and number two, Houston Dynamo U10, faced each other in the first game of the tournament. In an exciting game Juniors FC brought home the three points with a 4-2 win. Juniors FC and Houston Dynamo both won the remaining games, meaning Juniors FC became the Champions in the U10 bracket.

The U12’s had a group of four teams who faced each other ones. After that, the number one and two of the group played a final. The numbers three and four in the group played for the third place. Borussia Dortmund won the third place by beating Real kids in an exciting match.

Willis FC and Kingwood Navy finished first and second in the group. The group game ended in a 5-3 win for Willis FC. In the second match against each other, Willis FC and Kingwood Navy made it really exciting, in a game that ended in a 3-3 tie. After that, Kingwood Navy was clearly better in taking penalties. With a 3-0 win in the penalty shoot-out, Kingwood Navy (the only girls team in the age group) became champion of the U12 bracket.

Busy day at the Dutch Lions FC Cup

The U14’s had a group of four teams who faced each other ones. For the U14’s the same rules applied as for the U12 group. That means after the group stage, the numbers one and two played a final match for the trophy!
The numbers three and four played for the third place. The Houston Dutch Lions FC won the third place while facing the Houston Leones FC. The Other Guys and Willis FC finished first and second in the group, after an easy win for The Other Guys. In the final The Other Guys and Willis FC faced each other again, making it a really exciting match for all the fans!
The game ended in a 4-4 tie, so penalties had to determine who would win the trophy. The Other Guys were more determined with the penalty kicks (4-2), and earned the Championship in the U14 bracket.

The Other Guys can be proud of themselves for winning the inaugural Dutch Lions FC Cup (being a team with the majority of Houston Dutch Lions FC Youth Academy players).
