HFA team looses unnecessary
Our first Men’s amateur team lost their 4th game of the season. With an overall ball possession percentage of 80% – 20% to the advantage of the Dutch Lions FC, this outcome was very disappointing. SCS Pan Am scored twice within the first 10 minutes, both goals were an individual mistake of which the lower ranked opponent gladly took advantage.
In the 14th minute of the game Jose Alvarez showed his stunning shooting skills by curving the ball from 25 yards over the goalie, he made the score 1-2 and the spectators would think this would be a game with more goals to come.
A little over 30 minutes in the game a thru ball towards our goal, Michel Clifford anticipated and moved forwards towards the ball. The striker for SCS Pan Am arrived at the ball first and with a smart touch he kicked the ball against Michel’s hand, a red card and a free kick was waiting for the Dutch Lions FC. With a score of 1-2 behind and one man short, the team knew they had to give everything to turn this game around.
Unfortunately the Dutch Lions FC had trouble creating the major chances and when they did, these chances were missed. The Dutch Lions FC had the ball in possession and tried to play their own game; passing the ball quickly around and trying to create an open player. This is easier said than done, as the field at Bear Creek Park was not in good shape and the hard blowing wind wasn’t helping at all.
In the second half it was still one direction traffic all going towards the goalie of SCS Pan Am. Unfortunately for the Dutch Lions FC the team kept on missing chances. The field play was okay; they had more ball possession and it was just waiting for the team to take a shot.
The opponent couldn’t take advantage of the one player more situation, the Dutch Lions FC had the ball en kept the ball. When building up there was a major misunderstanding between the goalie and defenders. The forward for SCS Pan Am was grateful and kicked the ball in the empty goal from 30 yards, leaving the Dutch Lions FC players on the field confused. In the following minutes of the game Thankgod Ikudehinbu had a big change to bring the tension back into the game, his shot just went next to the post were some players were already cheering for a goal.
And so the Dutch Lions FC lost their fourth game of the season, again very unlucky. The team plays good soccer and had a high percentage of ball possession, next step is to reward themselves during the game with goals… In two weeks the team will play a very important game against Fury Black, in the race for the 2nd place this game needs to be a win.
